This month sees the annual Celtic Connections festival take place in Glasgow and as ever many of the TO members are involved in shows. Just in case you wanted to catch the guys out of their Treacherous guise here’s a wee guide as to what folk are up to over the festival weeks.
Duncan Lyall New Voices@The Strathclyde Suite, Sunday 22nd Jan – TO bassist Duncan serves up a concoction of self-penned music, ably assisted by TO members Ali Hutton, Innes Watson and Martin O’Neill.
Ross Ainslie Trio@The National Piping Centre, Sat 28th Jan – Another premier for a new trio featuring Ross along with fellow TO prankster Ali Hutton and James Mackintosh on percussion.
Kris Drever Band@The Old Fruitmarket, Thurs 26th Jan – Lau frontman Kris unveils his new band featuring among others his usual duo partner, TO’s Banjoman, aka Éamonn Coyne.
Jarlaith Henderson Trio@The National Piping Centre (same gig as Ross Ainslie Trio), Sat 28th Jan – Red Hot piping whizz Jarlaith Henderson takes the lead role in a dynamic trio completed by TO wing-men Duncan Lyall and Innes Watson.
Alternative Burns Night with Babelfish@Oran Mor, Weds 25th Jan – A first CC gig for this folk/jazz/phsychadellic/spoken word combo featuring Adam Sutherland on fiddle and John Somerville on accordion, a unique take on a Burns night.
Halcyon@Beat Bothy Club Night, The Arches Fri 3rd Feb – TO members Barry Reid, John Somerville and Adam Sutherland unveil their new electro/big-beat project .
The Long Notes@ABC1, Weds 25th Jan TO guitarist Steve Byrnes lays down some guitar grooves in this energetic Irish quintet, they recently released a new album album which was produced by TO’s Ali Hutton.
Session A9@the Glasgow Concert Hall, Thurs 26th Jan – Fiddle supergroup featuring Adam Sutherland return for a big show at the Royal Concert Hall.
